Style- Vision

Christopher Nolan's stlye is influenced by his love of literatuve and he believes that the more movies relate to real life, the more exciting they are. Ever since his first film, "The Following" he has made a point to showcase his abilites as a confident and creative storyteller no matter the budget of the film. Not only did he shocase his directing abilities, but he estabilished a key signature of his work; where chronology takes a back seat to character.Nolan's films have defied classification in tradtional genres by being psychologically demanding and engaging. Nolan's utilized visual illusions, time jumping edits, and elaborate showmanship in his film "The Prestige" to captivate the auidence.

Themes/ Conflicts/ Motifs/ Characters/ Actors

One of Nolan's most used theme is guilt, which he employs in "The Memento", "Insomnia", and "Batman Begins."
Guilt is used in "The Memento" with Leonard's failure to save his wife and inability to remember what he has done about it since.Nolan's "The Memento" showcased the emotions of revenge and jealously and the inconsequence of actions as major themes. Later in "Insomnia" guilt is used as a theme when Dormer accidentally kills a friend. "Batman Begins" employs guilt as a theme with Bruce Wayne's belief that he was responsible for the deaths of his parents. In these three works Nolan also inserted themes such as the human reliance on sleep and memory, and the nature of fear. While, in "The Dark Knight" Nolan used the idea that heroes with powerful moral convictions regarding justice and freedom could lose faith in those ideals as a major theme.Another theme in Nolan's most recent film is the idea that, you either "Die a hero of live long enough to become the villan". A major motif in "The Dark Knight" is leaving life up to chance with the flip of a lucky coin. As a director Christopher Nolan enjoys working with the same actors in different films. For instance his use of Christian Bale in "Batman Begins", "The Prestige", and "The Dark Knight".

Analysis of Key Film

The Dark Knight (2008) was a true masterpiece and possibly Nolan's best directing. The acting is a huge highlight of this movie. Everyone knows all the speculation about Heath Ledger's death after playing the Joker, and even the speculation of him being chosen in the first place, but there's one thing that there should be no speculation about: his performance. The visuals in this film were excellent and connected well with the dark aura of the movie.
